Mr George Harrison first opened his shop in March 1930, at Lambton Quay, Wellington. A reputation for quality tailoring and made to measure suits was soon acquired and 'George Harrison & Co.' dressed many prominent politicians and business people of the time over the next 40 years. When the business was sold in 1960, expansion followed and three additional shops were opened in Wellington, to be followed by a further two in Auckland opening in 1980 after the business was taken over by Apparel Holdings. In 1987 Apparel Holdings became a subsidiary of Brierley Investments Ltd. and from that time business became more difficult, the stores gradually closed and the last George Harrison & Co. finally ceased trading in 1993.

In the same year, Peter Jackson (who had first bought the company in 1970) approached the owners of the new Atrium shopping centre in Elliott Street, Auckland. Peter’s vision was to redevelop ‘George Harrison’ as a destination menswear store, with an expansive 680 square metre showroom on the 3rd floor of the new centre.

George Harrison was therefore reborn in its current location later that year and since that time has been known for its excellent selection of superior menswear brands, exceptional service and relaxing ambiance.
